Not a travel agency. Not a package deal. We're the local connection you wish you'd had the last time you visited Sri Lanka.
Our private, white-glove tier. Dedicated butlers and chauffeurs, private chefs, helicopter transfers, villa management, discreet security and 24/7 concierge — layered on top of any journey, for travellers who'd rather simply arrive and be looked after.

“It genuinely felt like the trip was designed around our group rather than being a standard, off-the-shelf package. We chose Kurumba Trails over Indian travel agents, and it was absolutely worth it!”
“We were 2 girls traveling alone and just felt like they were our family. Our safety and comfort was their first preference!!”
“They didn’t treat us like another booking; they felt like friends who just happen to run a travel company.”
The trips we plan most often. Take one as it is, or let us change it around you.
This is what comes with every Kurumba Trails booking — not an upsell, just how we work.

One of Asia's best right-hand point breaks, and a whole coastline around it. Here's where to surf, stay, eat and explore.
In season, A-Bay shifts from sleepy coastal village to the most energetic place on the island. The swell locks in, the international crowd arrives, and something is always happening. It's not just about the surf — though the right-hander out front is genuinely world-class.
We've been here for multiple seasons. We know which guesthouses book out in June, which nights are worth staying up for, and how to get there without seven hours on a bus. Book with us and skip the part where you figure it out yourself.
Arugam Bay isn't one wave — it's a whole coastline of them, each with its own character, crowd and skill level. Here's where to paddle out, whether it's your first week on a board or you're chasing the cleanest right-hander of the season.

The food scene in A-Bay punches well above a town this size — fresh seafood, surfer brunch spots, wood-fired pizza and proper Sri Lankan home cooking. Here's where we'd send you.

Arugam Bay isn't a big nightlife town, but during season it doesn't need to be — a handful of beachfront spots carry the whole scene. Here's who's actually worth your night.

Got a restaurant or café in Arugam Bay? If it's genuinely good, we'd love to know about it.
Most people come to Arugam Bay to surf and leave only knowing the bay. That's a mistake. The east coast hides some of Sri Lanka's best wildlife, lagoons and ancient sites — and we'll arrange any of it for you, with the right guide and the right timing.

Arugam Bay is a 7-hour drive from Colombo, or a 45-minute domestic flight to Ampara and a short transfer. Most people get the bus. Most people regret it. We'll sort you something better.
Accommodation books out fast. The good stuff especially. Drop us the details and we'll come back with a plan — usually within 24 hours.
Warm water, forgiving waves and a string of surf towns along one coastal road. The best place in Sri Lanka to learn, and to get properly good.
The south coast isn't one surf spot. It's a chain of them, Weligama, Midigama, Ahangama, Kabalana, Hiriketiya, all within a short tuk-tuk ride of each other. Beginners learn on sand, improvers move onto the reefs, and nobody has to change hotels to try a new wave.
Off the board, the season lines up with everything else worth doing down here: blue whales off Mirissa, Galle Fort, Yala at its best and some of the island's best food. We'll match you to the right town for your level, then build the rest around it.
From the gentlest beginner bay on the island to fast reef rights that need a proper swell. Here's what each one is like and who it suits.
Each town has its own crowd and its own waves. Where you sleep decides what your mornings look like.
Brunch cafés, boat-to-table dinners, sunset decks and beach clubs. Here's where we'd send you between sessions.
Surf in the morning, explore in the afternoon. We arrange all of these as private trips around your surf schedule.
The Southern Expressway puts Weligama and Ahangama roughly two to three hours from Colombo or the airport. We arrange private transfers straight to your stay, plus tuk-tuks and scooters once you're there.
We're a travel concierge, not a booking site or a tour package. Tell us what you want from Sri Lanka and we plan it, book it and look after you while you're here: hotels, transfers, activities, reservations and the people who make it special.
You talk to one person. We deal with everyone else.
Every trip comes with an interactive itinerary, built after we've talked properly about what you're after. Your route on a map, your ride, stay options to choose from, a clear price, and a day by day written around your group.
Then the guides: where to eat and drink, where the good nights are, the spas and salons worth booking, where to shop. Add-ons to pick from, and a Good To Know checklist so you land ready. The kind of local knowledge you'd normally only get from a friend who lives here.
All of this comes with a normal Kurumba Trails trip. You don't need a premium tier to get a table booked or a cake on the table.
Every celebration starts the same way: you tell us the occasion and we find the right people. The difference is who looks after the details.
Not sure which you need? If there are lots of moving parts, a big guest list, or you'd rather not deal with vendors yourself, go fully managed. Any celebration can be upgraded.

Darshil brought his Leo Club from Indore. We handled the rest: stays in Bentota and Ahangama, a setup for the club's AGM, a Madu Ganga boat safari, a traditional games night at the villa, a group dinner at The Slow in Mirissa, and nights out down the coast.

These terms apply to all services provided by Kurumba Trails, a travel concierge operated by Kurumba Trails (Pvt) Ltd, company registration number PV 00376940, registered office No. 12/9, 46 Station Road, Dehiwala 10350, Sri Lanka ("Kurumba Trails", "we", "us"). "You" means the person who books with us and everyone travelling on that booking.
By confirming a booking or paying a deposit, you agree to these terms, our Cancellation & Refund Policy and our Privacy Policy on behalf of yourself and everyone in your group.
We plan and arrange travel in Sri Lanka: accommodation, transport, activities, reservations, vendors and on-the-ground support, as described in your itinerary. We are not a hotel, airline or tour operator ourselves. Most services in your trip are delivered by independent suppliers such as hotels, villas, drivers, guides, activity operators, restaurants and event vendors.
We choose suppliers carefully and act on your behalf when we book them. Each supplier remains responsible for the service it provides, and its own terms and conditions may also apply.
Your itinerary sets out what's included, what isn't, and the price. A quote is valid for the period stated on it, or 7 days if no period is stated. Prices and availability are not guaranteed until your deposit is received and we confirm the bookings.
Anything not listed as included, such as flights, visas, meals and drinks not stated, tips, personal expenses and optional add-ons, is not part of the price.
If you want to change your trip after booking, such as dates, hotels, activities or group size, tell us in writing (WhatsApp or email) as early as possible. We'll do our best to accommodate it, subject to availability. Any extra cost, including supplier change fees, is payable by you. A reduction in group size is treated as a partial cancellation under our Cancellation & Refund Policy.
Cancellations must be made in writing. Refunds follow our Cancellation & Refund Policy. Where a supplier applies stricter terms, those terms apply to that part of your booking, and we'll tell you about them before you book.
Occasionally a supplier may close, overbook or cancel, or circumstances may require us to change part of your trip. If that happens, we'll offer you a replacement of a similar standard. If a replacement isn't possible, we'll refund the amount you paid for the service that can't be provided, less any non-refundable costs we can't recover. If we cancel your whole trip for reasons within our control, we'll refund all payments you've made to us.
As part of our concierge service, we recommend vendors (such as decorators, cake makers, photographers and musicians), agree the main details with them, and book and pay them for you. You'll receive the booking voucher and the vendor's contact details. Smaller details, such as designs, colours, shot lists and song requests, are agreed directly between you and the vendor.
If you'd like us to manage every detail through a dedicated event manager, this is available as a fully managed service under King Kurumba at an additional cost.
Where a trip is organised by a club, community or host ("organiser"), we provide the organiser with a net price per person. The organiser sets the price their members pay, collects payment from them, and pays us the group price on the agreed schedule. Hosted group trips have a minimum group size of 14 travellers unless otherwise agreed in writing. The organiser is responsible for the accuracy of traveller details they give us and for passing on these terms to their travellers.
We strongly recommend that every traveller has comprehensive travel insurance covering cancellation, medical expenses, emergency evacuation, personal belongings and any adventure activities you plan to do. Travel insurance is not included in our prices unless stated.
Some activities, such as hiking, surfing, diving, rafting, safaris and water sports, carry natural risks. You take part at your own risk and should only do activities suitable for your fitness and health. Operators may ask you to sign their own waivers. Please tell us in advance about any medical conditions, pregnancy or mobility needs that might affect what's suitable for you.
We'll take reasonable care in arranging your trip and choosing suppliers. We are not liable for the acts, omissions, delays or failures of independent suppliers, or for loss, injury, damage or extra cost they cause, except where we have been negligent.
Where we are found liable, our total liability is limited to the amount you paid us for the affected service. We are not liable for indirect or consequential loss. Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot be limited under Sri Lankan law.
We are not responsible for changes, delays or cancellations caused by events outside our reasonable control, including extreme weather, natural disasters, epidemics, government action, civil unrest, strikes, airline schedule changes or road closures. In these cases we'll help you rearrange your plans and recover what we can from suppliers, but refunds depend on what suppliers return to us.
We'd love to share photos from your trip, but we'll only post images of you or your group with your permission.
If something isn't right during your trip, tell us straight away on WhatsApp so we can fix it while you're still there. If you're still unhappy afterwards, write to us within 14 days of returning and we'll respond as quickly as we can. Issues we weren't told about at the time may be harder for us to resolve.
These terms are governed by the laws of Sri Lanka. Any dispute will be handled by the courts of Colombo, Sri Lanka, although we'll always try to resolve problems with you directly first.
This Cancellation & Refund Policy applies to all trips and services booked with Kurumba Trails (Pvt) Ltd ("Kurumba Trails", "we", "us"). It forms part of our Terms & Conditions. By paying a deposit, you accept this policy on behalf of everyone named on the booking.
A deposit of 50% of the total trip cost is required to confirm a booking. The balance is payable as set out in your itinerary and our Terms & Conditions.
The refund due on cancellation depends on whether the entire group cancels or only some travellers withdraw, and on when we receive written notice.
| Type of cancellation | Notice of 1 month or more before arrival | Notice of less than 1 month before arrival |
|---|---|---|
| Entire group cancels | 50% of all payments made is refunded | Non-refundable |
| Some travellers cancel Reduction in headcount | Full refund of the cancelling travellers' share | Non-refundable |
All cancellations must be made in writing by WhatsApp or email. Refund entitlements are calculated from the date we receive your written notice.
Where a hotel or other supplier applies cancellation terms that are stricter than this policy, the supplier's terms apply to that part of the booking. We will always inform you of any such terms before you book.
Refunds of amounts paid to Kurumba Trails are made to the original payment method wherever possible. Card-processing fees already incurred are non-refundable.
Requests to change travel dates, rather than cancel, can often be accommodated subject to availability. Please contact us as early as possible to discuss any change.
For any question about a change or cancellation, contact us by WhatsApp at +94 77 697 8961 or by email at hello@kurumbatrails.com.

Are you an event organiser, brand, DJ, performer, or production specialist? We're always looking for talented people and partners to work with on events across Sri Lanka.
Less "things to see," more how to actually live the city. Cafes, dining, nightlife, work and culture — with us a WhatsApp message away for reservations, transport and recommendations.
From Colombo's newest dining destinations to its best coffee and brunch spots — where to eat, any time of day.

Whether you're here for a day, a weekend or a longer stay, we'll help you experience the city your way. Reach out any time on WhatsApp for reservations, recommendations, transport and private experiences.
Got a restaurant, café or bar in Colombo? If it's genuinely good, we'd love to know about it.
Every trip we plan is built around you. Pick the kind of trip you're after below, start from one of our signature packages, or just tell us what you want and we'll build it.
Beaches, surf, wildlife, culture, celebrations or nights out. Start with what you're after and we'll build the rest around it.
Ten of our most-loved routes, already planned and priced per person.
The more you tell us, the better we can make it. We usually come back within 24 hours with a proper plan — not a brochure, an actual recommendation.
For years, we found ourselves helping friends, colleagues and visitors get more out of Sri Lanka than the standard itinerary ever could. The right guesthouse. The restaurant without a sign. The surf break that never makes it into the guidebooks. The places, people and experiences that turn a good trip into a memorable one.
What began as recommendations and favours gradually became something more. Friends, colleagues and even family across the water kept reaching out for advice on where to stay, what to do and how to experience Sri Lanka beyond the obvious. At some point, it simply made sense to make it official.
Today, Kurumba Trails helps travellers experience Sri Lanka through local knowledge, trusted connections and carefully curated recommendations. We don't work from a catalogue. We work from experience, relationships and a genuine belief that travel is better when it feels personal.
Whether you're here for a few days in Colombo, a surf season in Arugam Bay, a wedding celebration, a business trip or a journey across the island, we'll help you discover the Sri Lanka we know and love.
Sri Lanka is a beach country before it's anything else — four coasts, two monsoons, and a swimmable bay somewhere on the island in every single month of the year. But "beach" here means wildly different things: a shallow turquoise bay where toddlers can wade out a hundred metres, a tombolo island that only appears at low tide, a blood-red cliff where the sea turns three shades of blue. We've mapped over 30 of them. Here's where to actually go, and why.
Most people picture one kind of Sri Lankan beach — palm trees, a long golden strip, maybe a surfboard. The reality is a much bigger island than that photo suggests. The south coast is the postcard: lively, developed, reliably calm November to April. The east coast flips the calendar entirely — its best months are exactly when the south gets rough. The west is the practical gateway, minutes from the airport. And the north is something else altogether: flat, wind-scoured, close to empty, with tied islands and baobab trees that feel like nowhere else in the country.
This matters for planning more than people realise. Because the coasts run on opposite seasons, there's always a good beach window open somewhere — we just have to pick the right coast for your dates, not the other way around.
Sri Lanka's beach seasons run on the monsoon, and the monsoon runs opposite on each coast. Tell us your travel dates and we'll steer you to the coast that's actually calm — not just the one that's famous.
Not every beach in Sri Lanka is safe for a five-year-old to wade into unsupervised. These are — shallow, reef-protected or bay-sheltered, and genuinely calm rather than "calm on a good day."

For honeymoons, anniversaries, or the one evening on a trip that has to look right in every photo. These are the beaches we send couples to.

Sri Lanka's coastline still has genuine surprises in it — you just need someone who's actually been to point you at them. These are the ones we tell people about only once we know they're the kind of traveller who'll appreciate them.

Arugam Bay, Weligama, Hiriketiya, Midigama, Ahangama — a handful of Sri Lanka's best-known beaches are really surf towns first, beaches second. If waves, board hire, or learning to surf are part of the plan, we've got a whole guide dedicated to exactly that — seasons, breaks by skill level, and which coast to pick for your dates.
Several of these beaches double as some of the best shore snorkelling in Asia. Hikkaduwa's marine sanctuary has resident sea turtles you can swim beside straight off the sand. Pigeon Island, off Nilaveli, is a full marine national park. Polhena's reef-protected cove keeps things calm enough for total beginners.
Want to go deeper — literally? Sri Lanka has proper dive sites on both coasts running opposite seasons, including the HMS Hermes wreck off Trincomalee and Kalpitiya's Bar Reef. We cover certification levels, sites and timing in full on the Adventure page.
Swim-safe for the kids, secluded for a honeymoon, or a hidden tombolo nobody else is talking about — tell us what the beach part of your trip needs to do, and we'll match it to the right coast and the right week.
Two coastlines. Two seasons. Year-round waves. Whether you're learning, improving or chasing the best right-hander in Asia — we'll make sure you're on the right coast at the right time.
When one coast goes flat, the other fires. This is why Sri Lanka works as a surf destination 365 days a year — you just need to be on the right side of the island.
East Coast (Arugam Bay): May to September — the famous right-hand point breaks. South Coast (Weligama, Ahangama, Midigama, Hiriketiya): November to April — beginner-friendly beaches and reef breaks. Tell us your level and your dates.
Arugam Bay's Main Point is the headline act — a long peeling right-hander that has appeared in every serious surf magazine in the world. But the bay has six distinct breaks across all levels, and the surrounding coastline has more. The scene around A-Bay during season is also something else: surf camps, beach bars, live music, a crowd that comes back year after year. Our full guide covers where to stay, eat, go out and explore between sessions.
Off season (Oct–Apr): most A-Bay guesthouses, cafés and bars close. Plan for May to September.
When the east coast monsoon closes things down, the south turns on. November through April is Sri Lanka's best window for beginner and intermediate surfers — warm water, consistent waves, and a south coast culture of its own: great food, good guesthouses, the right crowd.
This is also when Yala is at its best, the hill country is clear, and the whale watching season in Mirissa runs Jan–Apr. A south coast surf trip in December is genuinely one of the best things you can do in this part of the world.
The best Sri Lanka surf itinerary combines both coasts — south coast first (lessons, reef breaks, Galle), then cross to the east for Arugam Bay season. Different vibe, different waves, completely different Sri Lanka.
A lot of people come to Sri Lanka specifically to learn — and what they often don't realise is that the schools here are properly accredited. ISA (International Surfing Association) is the global certification body, and most serious schools on both coasts have ISA-certified instructors with ILS water-safety training.
Multi-lesson courses run 3, 5 or 7 sessions over a week — finish one and you walk away with a documented certificate of completion. Useful if you want to track progression, or if you're planning to keep surfing back home.
Just want to try it? A half-day session with a local instructor, no course commitment.
Theory on land, ocean practice, video analysis. Designed for first-timers — you'll catch waves on day one.
Progress to green-wave riding. Video review sessions, structured drills, and a course certificate at the end.
5–14 night stays with accommodation, all coaching, board hire, daily sessions and reef-spot trips bundled. The fully-immersed option.
Sri Lanka rewards the people who go a little further. Cloud forest trails, rock faces above the mist, lagoons no one else is on. We know what's out there and we know how to arrange it properly.
Some activities run year-round, others have narrow windows tied to the monsoons. Hiking the hills wants dry skies. Rafting needs the river running. Kitesurfing follows the wind. Here's the cheat sheet.
These are the things we actually arrange, with operators we trust. Each one can be a standalone day or woven into a longer trip.
The featured ones above are our favourites — filter by type for the rest of what's pinned on the map.
Any of these can be a standalone day, or we can build it into a wider Sri Lanka trip. We arrange the transport, the operator, any permits or entry fees, and make sure the timing works — including the unglamorous part of getting there at 5am when something is worth it.
We don't take commissions from operators for sending people their way. We work with the people we'd use ourselves, and we tell you honestly when something isn't worth doing.
One of the highest leopard densities in the world. The largest land gatherings of Asian elephants on earth. 450 species of bird. A whale corridor that runs year-round offshore. This island punches far above its size when it comes to wildlife — and most visitors barely scratch the surface.
Sri Lanka's wildlife runs on seasons — leopards retreat in the dry, elephants gather at receding tanks, whales follow the monsoon between coasts. Time your trip and what you'll see changes completely.
Sri Lanka has more leopards per square kilometre than almost anywhere in the world. It's one of the few places you can see blue whales, sperm whales and spinner dolphins on the same morning. The elephant population here behaves differently to anywhere else in Asia — large mixed herds, regular waterhole gatherings, visible year-round.
For photographers specifically, the light, the density of subjects and the relative accessibility of the parks make this a serious destination. You don't need to wait a week for one sighting. With the right park, the right guide and the right timing — you'll fill a card in a morning.
The wrong park at the wrong time of year is a jeep driving through empty bush. The right one is something else entirely. Here's the honest breakdown.
Sri Lanka is a serious birding destination — partly because of its endemic species, partly because of its position on the Central Asian Flyway, and partly because the density and accessibility of the parks means you log species fast. Here's how the bird calendar breaks down.
In the dry season, waterholes are where everything happens. Water levels drop, animals concentrate, and if you position at the right waterhole at the right time of day — you don't need to drive around. You wait, and the subjects come to you.
Our guides track which waterholes are active, which ones the cats are using, and what time they're coming. That knowledge doesn't come from reading a guidebook. It comes from being in the park every morning for years.
The difference between a good safari and a frustrating one is almost entirely the guide. We work with naturalists who've spent years in specific parks — who know the individual leopards, know the birds' territories, and know which waterhole is active this week, not last season. We don't send you to whoever has a free jeep.
For serious photographers, we can arrange private jeeps so you control where you go and how long you stay. No group compromise, no moving on before you've got the shot.
Ancient capitals, cave temples and a rock fortress that shouldn't exist — but this island's culture isn't only in the ruins. It's in kitchens, markets and villages that still work the way they always have. We arrange both sides of it, properly routed and without the tour-bus crowds.
Ancient sites tell you where Sri Lankan culture came from. A market, a wax pot and a silk drape tell you where it's still going. We arrange all of it.

Sigiriya was a king's palace in the sky, so it's fitting to dress the part. We arrange traditional royal Ceylon attire and jewellery for the empress and the emperor, styled properly, then a photoshoot with the rock fortress rising behind you. Made for couples, honeymoons and anniversaries, and just as good for a family or a group of friends.

The Vedda are Sri Lanka's indigenous forest people, descendants of the island's earliest inhabitants, and around a thousand still live in Dambana near Mahiyanganaya. Visit the village, meet the community and its chief, and learn how they've lived off the forest for generations, from traditional hunting with bow and axe to honey gathering. Stay for the Kiri Koraha dance, or camp overnight close to the village.

The Osariya — the Kandyan saree — is draped differently to any other saree in South Asia, pleated at the shoulder rather than the waist, and it originates from Kandy itself. We arrange proper draping and styling by someone who knows the tradition, jewellery included, followed by a photoshoot around Kandy's old town and lake — colonial streets, temple courtyards and hill-country light doing most of the work for you.

Rice and curry is the everyday backbone of Sri Lankan cooking — coconut sambols, dhal, a rotation of vegetable and fish curries cooked fresh in most homes on the island, most days. It's easy to arrange a hands-on version of that almost anywhere you're travelling: a market stop, then into someone's actual kitchen to cook and eat together. But the exact dish changes with who's cooking. In Galle, some of the oldest Fort families are Sri Lankan Moors descended from 16th-century Arab and Persian traders, and their kitchens run to fragrant buriyani and watalappan. In Jaffna, Tamil cooking shares more with South India than the rest of the country — clay-pot crab curry, wood-fire cooking, everything served on banana leaf. Same island, genuinely different food, and we can put you in the right kitchen for wherever you're headed.

A family-run batik workshop just outside Galle, where wax-resist dyeing has been the craft for generations. Watch artisans sketch a design in hot wax, dye the fabric in layers, then boil it to strip the wax and reveal the pattern underneath — before doing your own piece, start to finish, with someone guiding your hand the whole way. You leave with a genuine souvenir you actually made, not bought.
Sigiriya, Dambulla, Polonnaruwa and Anuradhapura form what's known as the Cultural Triangle — the ancient and medieval heartland of Sinhalese civilisation, and arguably the best-preserved showcase of early South Asian culture outside Angkor Wat. A 5th-century rock fortress with water gardens still holding water. A cave monastery painted continuously for 2,000 years. Two former capitals, a thousand years apart, both still standing.
This isn't a museum. Monks still walk the terraces at Anuradhapura's sacred sites. Pilgrims in white still prostrate at the shrines. The ancient and the living sit next to each other without any sense of performance — which is what makes it worth doing properly, not rushed.
Each site has its own character and its own logistics. Get the order and timing wrong and you're queueing in full sun; get it right and it's one of the best few days in the country. Here's the honest breakdown.
Three to four days covers the four main sites properly, at a comfortable pace with room for Minneriya or a lesser-visited stop like Ritigala or Yapahuwa. Two days is workable if you're tight on time — Sigiriya and Dambulla together on day one, Polonnaruwa on day two. The sites sit close enough together that a private driver-guide makes the whole thing far easier than public transport, and their local knowledge of timing — when Dambulla reopens, which gate to use, where the shade is — is worth more than it sounds.
Sigiriya first thing, always. Whichever order you take Dambulla and Polonnaruwa in, arriving at Sigiriya after 10am means full heat and a queue. We build every Cultural Triangle route around that one rule.
Ten nights of drummers, fire dancers and elaborately dressed elephants moving through Kandy to honour the Sacred Tooth Relic — one of Asia's oldest religious processions, and one of the only times of year the entire town organises itself around a single event. If your trip lands in late July or August, this is worth timing around, not stumbling into.
The exact dates shift every year with the Esala lunar month, so we confirm them as soon as they're published and build the rest of your Kandy time around it. Accommodation books out fast that week, and where you stand matters more than most people expect.
Ravana's kingdom, Sita's captivity, Hanuman's leap and the war that followed. Nearly thirty places across Sri Lanka are tied to the Ramayana, from the hills of Nuwara Eliya to the temples of Trincomalee. Pick the ones that matter to you and we'll route them properly.
The Ramayana's Lanka chapters are spread across the whole island: airfields and palaces, the garden where Sita waited, the hill Hanuman searched from, the battlefield and the temples where Rama prayed afterwards. Most people only hear about two or three of them.
We've laid them out below in story order, so you can see what each one means before you choose. Book one of our two Ramayana packages as it is, or tell us which sites you want and we'll build the route around them, at a pace that works for parents and grandparents too.
These are places of faith and local tradition. Some, like Seetha Amman and Munneswaram, are active temples; others are rocks, caves and ruins where the story lives on.
Most of the story sits in the hills around Nuwara Eliya and Ella, with temples out on the coasts. Tap a dot or a name to jump to that site.
Tap any site on the map for directions. Not sure what to pick? The ones marked Easy stop are quick and gentle, good for older parents.
Before the war, Lanka is Ravana's kingdom: palaces, airfields and a flying chariot, the Pushpaka Vimana. Sita is carried here from India.

Local legend links the rock to Ravana's palace, though historians date the fortress to the 5th century.
Good to know: Climb early, before 8am. About 1,200 steps.

The name means 'place of aircraft landing'. Said to be where Ravana's flying chariot first touched down with Sita.
Good to know: A short stop, best paired with Seetha Kotuwa.

Another of Ravana's airfields, on a flat-topped peak above the plains.
Good to know: An easy 1.5 hour walk from the Horton Plains entrance.

Ruins said to be Queen Mandodari's palace, where Sita was first held. Gurulupotha nearby is where the chariot was repaired.
Good to know: Remote, off the main roads. We go with a local guide.
Sita refuses to live in Ravana's palace, so he keeps her in his pleasure garden in the cool hills, and moves her when Hanuman finds her.

The only temple in the world dedicated to Sita, on the spot where she waited under an Ashoka tree. Hanuman's footprints are said to mark the rocks by the stream.
Good to know: The most important stop on the trail. Go for the morning pooja.

Believed to be Ashok Vatika itself, Ravana's garden. Sita Pokuna, the pool where she bathed, sits on the rock above.
Good to know: Gentle paths, good for older parents. 5 minutes from Seetha Amman.

A cave in the cliff where Ravana is said to have hidden Sita, linked to his network of tunnels.
Good to know: Steep steps up. Skip it if anyone has bad knees.

Sita is said to have bathed in the pool below the falls while held nearby.
Good to know: Right on the road. A quick photo stop.

Where Sita was moved after Hanuman found her. The rock nearby is where she dried her hair.
Good to know: Remote, best with a local guide.

A strip of land said to be scarred by Ravana's chariot, with small ponds believed to be Sita's tears.
Good to know: A 3–4 hour hike. For keen walkers only.
Hanuman leaps across the sea, finds Sita, gives her Rama's ring, and sets Lanka on fire with his burning tail on the way out.

Built on the hill where Hanuman is said to have searched for Sita, and where Rama's army later camped.
Good to know: A 5m Hanuman statue and big tea-country views. Easy access from the road.

The red, bare earth is said to be where Hanuman's burning tail scorched Ravana's airfield.
Good to know: Go late afternoon for the colour. Not a swimming beach.
Rama's army crosses the sea by a bridge of stones. Battles rage across the island, and Hanuman flies back with a mountain of healing herbs.

The chain of sandbanks Rama's army built to cross from India to Lanka.
Good to know: Viewed from Talaimannar. A long drive north, best as an overnight.

Where Sugreeva's army launched their attack on Ravana.
Good to know: Pair with the Dondra lighthouse at sunset.

Laggala was Ravana's lookout, where Rama's army was first spotted. Dunuvila is named after the arrow (dunu) Rama fired.
Good to know: Scenic but remote, best on a slower route.

Said to be the battlefield itself. Locals point to the bare, scorched-looking ground.
Good to know: Inside Wasgamuwa, so pair it with an elephant safari.

Where Ravana's son Indrajith performed a ritual for invincible power, until Lakshmana interrupted it.
Good to know: In town, easy to fit in.

Pathala Loka, the underworld where Ravana's ally hid Rama and Lakshmana before Hanuman rescued them.
Good to know: A 9km loop walk. Start at dawn before the mist rolls in.

Lord Karthikeya is said to have protected Rama here from a second Brahmastra fired by Ravana.
Good to know: Evening pooja is the time to go. Shared by Hindus, Buddhists and Muslims.

A piece of the Sanjeevani mountain Hanuman carried to heal Lakshmana fell here. The hill is still known for rare medicinal plants.
Good to know: Walk up to the Peace Pagoda for views over Galle.

The largest Sanjeevani fragment, also home to the ruins of an ancient forest monastery.
Good to know: Cooler and quieter than the rest of the Cultural Triangle.

Another fragment of Hanuman's Sanjeevani mountain, known for its medicinal herbs.
Good to know: Seen on the drive between Chilaw and Kandy.
Ravana falls. Sita proves her purity through fire, Vibhishana is crowned, and Rama prays to Shiva to wash away the sin of killing Ravana.

The place of Sita's Agni Pariksha, her trial by fire. 'Divurumpola' means place of oath.
Good to know: Locals still come here to settle disputes by swearing an oath.

Where Vibhishana was crowned King of Lanka after Ravana fell.
Good to know: 20 minutes from Colombo. Beautiful murals inside.

The first Shiva lingam Rama installed after the war, the Ramalingam.
Good to know: Small and peaceful. Pair with Munneswaram.

One of the Shiva temples where Rama is said to have prayed after the war.
Good to know: An easy day trip from Colombo or Negombo.

Koneswaram is where Ravana did his penance to Shiva. Kanniya's seven hot wells are said to be made by Ravana.
Good to know: Koneswaram sits on a cliff above the sea. Kanniya is 15 minutes away.

Another of the Shiva temples linked to Rama after the war.
Good to know: Combine with Rama Setu on a trip north.
Shoulders and knees covered, shoes off at the entrance. White or light colours are a nice touch. We'll remind you the day before.
Seetha Amman, Munneswaram, Koneswaram and Kataragama are best at pooja times, morning or evening. We plan your days around them.
Most temples are easy to reach. Ravana Cave, Chariot Path and Horton Plains are not. Tell us who's coming and we'll pick the right sites and pace.
We arrange vegetarian and Jain-friendly meals along the route, and hotels that understand what that means.
Both are priced per person, with stays, a private car and driver, and the sites. Rates can change with the season, and we confirm your exact price when you share your dates. Change anything you like, or build your own from the list above.
Sri Lanka is one of the few places in the world where you can combine serious Ayurvedic treatment, ocean air, ancient forests and genuine stillness — all within a small island. The wellness infrastructure here is real and deep, not spa menus bolted onto resort hotels.
Ayurveda isn't something Sri Lanka borrowed from wellness tourism. It's been practised here for over 3,000 years — the same system of medicine used in the island's royal courts, still taught in accredited universities, still practised by families who've done it for generations. When a proper Ayurvedic physician assesses you here, they're drawing on a diagnostic tradition that predates modern medicine by centuries.
Beyond Ayurveda, the island itself is a wellness asset — cool hill country air, ocean on three coasts, forests that haven't been touched, and a pace of life that genuinely helps people decompress. We'll match you to the right type of experience for what you actually need.
There's a wide gap between a "Ayurvedic massage" at a beach hotel and a genuine Ayurvedic physician consultation followed by personalised treatment. We only recommend the latter. If you want real results — sleep, digestion, stress, chronic issues — it matters enormously who you see.
Serious Ayurvedic treatment (Panchakarma) requires a minimum of 7 days to be meaningful — ideally 14–21. Shorter stays can include consultation, specific treatments and a daily routine to take home. We're honest about what's achievable in the time you have.
Wellness isn't one thing. Tell us what you're after and we'll find the right fit.
Generic "wellness retreat" searches produce generic results. What actually matters is whether the physician is qualified, whether the food suits your constitution, whether the environment is genuinely quiet, and whether the programme fits your timeline and goals. We ask the questions that surface the right answer.
Wellness also doesn't have to be the whole trip. A week at an Ayurvedic retreat followed by a few days exploring the south coast is a common combination. Or you could build in a forest stay mid-trip as a reset between more active parts of the itinerary. Tell us how much time you have and we'll propose something realistic.
Most people coming to Sri Lanka for a wedding barely scratch the surface of the country. The celebration brings you here — we'll make sure the rest of the trip is worth the flight.
You've already booked the long-haul flight. You've already arranged the time off work. The wedding is two or three days of your schedule — the rest of that week, or the week either side, is entirely yours. Sri Lanka is one of the most varied travel destinations on earth in a very small footprint. A week before or after a wedding in Galle can give you elephants, surf, a hill country tea train, ancient ruins and one of the best food scenes in Asia.
We help wedding guests build the trip around the celebration — arriving early, staying late, or doing both — so the flight feels justified and the experience stays with you long after the wedding photos are printed.
Wedding guest groups are never one type of traveller. Here's how we approach the most common situations.
You've got time either side and you want to actually explore. We'll build you a route — typically Colombo + south coast + hill country, or a south coast loop if you're staying near Galle. Safari, a beach stay, the hill country train. A week feels like three.
Kids want elephants and the beach. Parents want comfort and not too much moving around. You want to not spend the whole trip being the logistics coordinator. We handle the transfers, space things out properly, and make sure the accommodation works for everyone.
A group of 6–12 people travelling together is actually the ideal format for Sri Lanka. A villa with a pool, a private driver, some surf lessons in the morning and a long lunch somewhere special. We've done this setup many times and we know which villas work and which beaches suit a group.
If you've never been, the wedding is a brilliant reason to finally come — and the best thing you can do is let us build the itinerary around it. We know what first-timers consistently love (hint: the hill country train, Yala at dawn, the south coast) and what consistently disappoints when people try to do too much.
Share the wedding date and location, how many days you have, who's travelling with you, and what kind of experience you're after. We'll come back with a proposal — usually within 24 hours.
King Kurumba is our private, white-glove tier — for travellers who'd rather arrive and simply be looked after. From the moment you land to the day you leave, a dedicated team handles every detail: butlers, chauffeurs, private chefs, helicopters, security and more. Quietly, seamlessly, on your terms.
Whether it's a honeymoon, an anniversary escape, a proposal that has to be perfect, a safari, a wedding party or a board meeting by the sea — King Kurumba elevates any Kurumba Trails experience with a level of privacy, comfort and personal care usually reserved for very few. Tell us what matters. We'll design everything around it.
Tell us what you need. We'll arrange the rest — discreetly.
Sri Lanka is an increasingly serious business destination — for investor visits, regional offsites, leadership retreats and corporate travel. We handle the ground logistics so the people making decisions can focus on why they came.
Executive travel fails at the operational layer — the car that doesn't arrive, the venue that isn't set up, the reservation that was made on the wrong day. We're local, we have relationships, and we're accountable. Not a booking platform, not a call centre in another time zone.
We're also part of Moonstrike Capital, which means we understand the context of business visits to Sri Lanka — investment, due diligence, expansion, leadership time — and we can support those objectives, not just the logistics around them.
Different objectives require different approaches.
A change of setting when it's needed — we can arrange a meeting, informal catch-up, or a break for the group on a charter from Colombo's Port City Marina.
Share your dates, the size of the group, the objective of the visit and any specific requirements. We'll respond with a proposal — and if discretion matters, we can discuss over WhatsApp rather than email.

Full-scale group events for people who want more than a restaurant booking. We source the venue, arrange the talent, feed the crowd and run the night — from a villa dinner for 15 to a beach production with sound and international acts.
Most events in Sri Lanka stop at the basics. We go further. Whether it's a tightly curated dinner for a private group or a full beach party with production, lighting and music — we have the relationships and the experience to make it happen.
We've arranged international DJ bookings and full production events before; we just never advertised it. Now we are. Tell us the group size, the occasion, and how big you want to go.
For premium productions, these run through King Kurumba, our private service tier.
Take the party offshore. A private catamaran or yacht for a few hours or a full evening — sunset drinks, dinner on deck, a DJ if you want one. Works as the whole event or as one leg of a longer night. Available on the west coast out of Colombo's Port City Marina, and on the south and east coasts alongside a beach stay.
Run a bar, restaurant or catering operation? We work with mixologists, private chefs, caterers, and venue owners on restaurant buyouts, in-villa dining, and private bar setups. If you'd like to be considered for our events list, tell us about your operation.
Some moments only happen once. We help make them unforgettable — whether it's the morning of a proposal, a honeymoon itinerary built around where you actually want to go, or an anniversary trip that finally lives up to the occasion.
You could book a generic honeymoon package. Or you could work with people who actually know the hidden beach, the chef who'll cook privately at the villa, and the exact moment the light falls on Sigiriya. We don't sell Sri Lanka from a brochure — we build your experience from the inside out.
Every celebration starts the same way: you tell us the occasion and we find the right people. The difference is who looks after the details.
Not sure which you need? If there are lots of moving parts, a big guest list, or you'd rather not deal with vendors yourself, go fully managed. Any celebration can be upgraded.
Ask Us Which Fits →The more you share, the better we can design it. Share the occasion, the people involved, and what would make it truly special.
Kurumba Trails is a curated travel concierge for a specific kind of traveller — international, discerning, spending properly, and looking for recommendations they can actually trust. If your restaurant, café, experience or venue is genuinely good, we want to know about it.
We don't feature everything. The places on Kurumba Trails are there because we'd genuinely send a friend. Kurumba Trails (Pvt) Ltd (Reg. No. PV 00376940) is a fully owned subsidiary of MoonStrike Capital Partners (Pvt) Ltd.
Kurumba Trails is built by people who know Sri Lanka personally — and by a trusted network of partners across the island.
For years, Shazana found herself helping friends, clients and visitors plan their time in Sri Lanka — recommending where to stay, where to eat, what to skip and how to experience the island properly.
What started as informal recommendations gradually became Kurumba Trails: a travel concierge built around trusted local knowledge, personal recommendations and the kind of advice you'd expect from someone on the ground.
Shakoor focuses on partnerships and relationship-building across the Kurumba Trails network. Working closely with hotels, villa owners, guides and local operators, he helps ensure travellers have access to trusted people and experiences throughout Sri Lanka.
His strength lies in identifying the right partners, maintaining strong relationships and continuously expanding the network that powers Kurumba Trails.
Thinush works closely with our partners across the island, helping identify new experiences, destinations and opportunities that align with the Kurumba Trails approach to travel.
From boutique stays and wildlife experiences to emerging destinations and local operators, he plays a key role in growing our network and ensuring we continue to uncover the places and people we would confidently recommend to our own friends and family.
The difference between Kurumba Trails and a booking platform is our relationships.
Over the years, we have built trusted connections with guides, surf instructors, safari experts, chefs, hotel owners, villa managers, drivers and local operators across Sri Lanka. That network is what allows us to help travellers experience the island with confidence, ease and real local insight.
Real reviews from travellers we've hosted, straight from our Google profile. Friends, families and groups of 20.
“We were a group of 20 travelling from Indore, India, and our experience with Kurumba Trails was absolutely fantastic! They took the time to understand our group’s vibe, preferences, and expectations, and curated an itinerary that was perfectly suited to us. It genuinely felt like the trip was designed around our group rather than being a standard, off-the-shelf package. From thoughtful touches like welcome hampers and e-SIMs to reliable on-ground support, they made sure everything was taken care of. We chose Kurumba Trails over Indian travel agents, and it was absolutely worth it!”
“Kurumba Trails actually lives up to “Travel like you know someone here”—seriously. They didn’t treat us like another booking; they felt like friends who just happen to run a travel company. Shazana and Shakoor spent time understanding what we wanted instead of just handing us a generic itinerary. What really stood out was the welcome package we got on arrival… all our hotel bookings, driver details, e-SIM info, and a handpicked selection of places to visit and eat at. If you want a Sri Lanka trip that actually feels special and personal, book them. You won’t regret it.”
“I contacted many companies but none of them responded so quickly at any time of the day. The owners personally call and get an understanding of what we are interested in, and then make the itinerary accordingly. We were 2 girls traveling alone and just felt like they were our family. We were not confident with the first hotel we stayed in, so they immediately without any hesitation moved us to another place. Our safety and comfort was their first preference!!”
“Had an absolutely amazing experience exploring Sri Lanka with Kurumba Trails. From airport pickup to the end of the trip, everything was exceptionally well coordinated. Even the party arrangements and overall vibes were fantastic! It never felt like we were just customers, it felt like we had people genuinely looking out for us.”
“The team took such incredible care of us, right down to every little detail. Everything was so thoughtfully planned and looked after. I would definitely recommend them! ❤️”
“They gave us the best deals and superb recommendations of party places. Thank you for making it a memorable trip for us.”
“Fantastic itinerary, great team and flawless service. Thank you guys for a memorable weekend!”
“We had a brilliant experience — everything was very organised with seamless service.”
“Great experience, amazing hospitality.”
